Mary Jolliffe Higgins was born in 1763 in Winchester, VA. She was raised a Quaker in the Hopewell community. She married Robert Higgins II in 1797 and they settled in Lewis Twp., Brown County, OH. Upon Mary's death in 1806, her husband, Robert, donated the land that the cemetery is located on for burial. She is believed to be the first person buried in Higginsport Cemetery, although there is said to be no marker for her gravesite[1][2][3]
