Hartwell's descendants seem to enjoy the name William, perhaps his father was William
Hartwell owned 19 slaves as of 1850, the Joneses in South Carolina appear to mostly come from Quacker and Baptist groups. The Quackers were generally opposed to slavery while the Baptist didn't mind so much. With this I think we are looking for a Calvinist Baptist or at least a son of a Baptist in this time period.

The two Striblings in Pendleton District in 1800 were:
(1) Thomas Stribling, Jr. --who married Nancy Ann Kincheloe and their son Thomas Stribling, III.
(2)Thomas Stribling, III (usually was referred to as Jr.) who married first Elizabeth "Betsy" Haile, and second Catherine Hamilton.
[Nancy Ann (Kincheloe) Stribling died in the home of her son Jesse in 1822 in Pendleton District, SC]
(3).Jesse Stribling was a son of Thomas Stribling, Jr. and Nancy Ann Kincheloe. Jesse was born 19 April, 1775, Union Dist., SC; made his will on 20 April, 1841; died on 9 November, 1841 at Cane Creek, Old Pendleton District. When counties were created, this area became part of Pickens County, SC.
Jesse bequeathed all of his property to his wife, Elizabeth (Sloan) Stribling, who was born about 1785 and died 9 Nov., 1849 in the part of Pendleton District which became Anderson County, SC. Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of David McCurdy Sloan, Sr. and Susannah "Susan" Majors. David McCurdy Sloan, Sr. had bequeated land including a 950 acre plantation to his daughter, Elizabeth (Sloan) Stribling and her husband Jesse.
