Leitner was born on 16 October 1885 in Panola County, MS. He was the son of Thomas Lee Jones and Annie Elizabeth (Low) Jones.^[1]

When Leitner was about 31 he married Mary Unknown in 1917 in Mississippi.^[2]

Leitner died at the age of 81 on 26 May 1967 in Panola County, MS.^[3]

Leitner was buried after 26 May 1967 in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Panola County, MS.
