Biography

Henry Jones has German Roots.

Heinrich "Henry" Schantz was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area about 1758, the son of German immigrants Johann Carl Schantz and Catherine Margareta Lintz.[1] The Schantz (later anglicized to Jones) family were among the original group of German families who settled Monckton Township on the Petitcodiac River in June, 1766.[2][3] Henry's father Charles received Lot Four of the new township.[4] Charles died in Moncton about 1774, and Lot Four was given to Henry his brother and John.[5] Henry likely moved to nearby Hillsborough Township with his mother and her new husband Jacob Ricker, Sr, but had returned to his Moncton land by 1780, farming and operating the family gristmill with his brother John.[6] About 1778, he married Christiana Somers, daughter of fellow Petitcodiac German settlers Mathias and Maria Christina (Null) Somers.[7] In 1786, Henry served as an assessor of Monckton Township.[8] He died on January 20, 1840 [9] in Salisbury, Westmorland, New Brunswick aged 82, and was buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery on Grub Road / "Back Road," between Pollett River and Little River.[10]

Although my earlier comment says that i don't mind whether this ancestor's name is given as Schantz or Jones, actually the principle of LNAB would seem to say that this one and his father should be Schantz, but all children and descendants should be Jones--the name their family was using by the time of their birth. What do you think?
