Mr. Charles R. Jones Found Dead ^[1]

The lifeless body of Mr. Charles R. Jones of Braxton was found slumped over the steering wheel of his pick up Monday on a rural road one mile north east of Braxton by W. E. Jennings, ambulance driver for Upton Funeral Home.

Jennings had been called to the scene by motorists who had passed the pickup. A coroner’s jury impaneled by Coroner R.J. Smith ruled the cause of death to be due to natural causes.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Jupiter Baptist Church with Rev. W. J. Hemby and Rev. Gary Berry officiating. Interment followed in the Jupiter cemetery Upton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones, who was 60 years of age and resided at Route One, Braxton was a member of the Jupiter Baptist Church. He was a native of Smith County.

He is survived by his wife. Mrs. Frankie Jones of Route One, Braxton; three sons, C.B. Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, Hollis C. Jones of Columbus and Frank Waltman [sic, step-son] of Braxton; five daughters [sic, s/b sisters], Mrs. Tom Lowton [sic, s/b Loftin] of Harperville, Mrs. Margaret Gill of Sims, Ala., Mrs. Laura Parkman of Morton, Mrs. Janie Chisholm of Lucedale, Mrs. Tina [sic, s/b Tennie] Bishop of Magee; two brothers, T.C. Jones of Magee and M.L. Jones of Kansas City, Mo.

Research Notes

Middle name verified from a grandson and a sister. SSDi birth date has Dec 02, 1905 where as headstone has Dec 28, 1905. The only place where Charles was found was on his obituary, all others listed Charlie. His obituary also notes a second wife name Frankie with one son named Frank Waham (or Waltman?) and five daughters mentioned are his sisters. His other surviving sons mentioned were C. B. Jones of Fort Worth, TX and Hollis C. Jones of Columbus but leaves out Charlie Ozelle Jones who didn't die until 1977. Bishop-4082 22:50, 26 April 2017 (EDT)
