William Marion Jones was wounded in battle during the Civil War near Knoxville, TN, and subsequently died of disease/infection. He was buried near the battlefield, as was the custom for those days.

[I'm certain he was in the infantry when he died. I'm not certain just how much he might have served with his brother in the 2nd Florida Cavalry. (His brother, James T. Jones, served primarily in Company A, Second Florida Cavalry, which is the same unit identified above.)]
