Burial: Mary (Jones) Lloyd was the first person to be buried in the Friends Burial Ground, at the corner of Fourth & Mulberry Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Mary's husband, Dr. Thomas Lloyd, was a prominent Quaker physician and pastor and a personal friend of William Penn. They emigrated to Philadelphia in July 1683 to escape religious persecution in England. When William Penn returned to England in 1684, Dr. Lloyd became the President of the colony's Council. In the fall of 1691 William Penn named him as Deputy Governor of the province. He lived at the northeast corner of Third and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia. Dr. Thomas Lloyd died in Philadelphia on September 10, 1694, having remarried to Patience Wilson, 27 Dec. 1684 in Flushing, New York. They had no children together.[3]
