- Of Nant Hir, Llanfor but by 1841 he was at at Ysgubor Fawr, Llanfor. His will dated 29 March 1855 mentions his children, three of whom (Gwen Pierce, Margaret Jones and David Jones were in America).
- From Quarter Sessions Records, Gwynedd Record Office at Dolgellau:
- 1824 Jan. 17 RECOGNIZANCE. Sureties: Hugh Jones, Tynddol, pa.[rish] Llanfawr, farmer, 50; John Jones, Nantgau, pa.[rish] Llanfawr, farmer and William Williams, Llwyn y Brain, pa.[rish] Llandderfel, farmer, 25 each. Taken before Richard Watkin Price, for the said Hugh Jones, charged with assaulting Edward Jones, Nanthir, pa.[rish] Llanfawr, to appear at next G.Q.S.
- 1824/28 n.d. PRESENTMENT by the Jurors that Hugh Jones, late pa.[rish] Llanfawr, farmer, did assault one Edward Jones.
- 1834 Feb. 3 RECOGNIZANCE Surety: Hugh Jones of Bochyrlsaid? 40, and Robert Roberts of Anmodd, 20. Taken before Edward Lloyd J.P., that J. Jones shall keep the peace for 12 months, especially towards Jane Jones of Nant Hir.
