Page: Part One. Text: Dear Scott, My apologies for the delays - floods are the latest hindrance, fortunately not too bad around here,so I have at last been to the Merioneth Record Office in Dolgellau. The information available was taken from the following sources:- "Crynwyr Bore Cymru 1653-1699" (Early Welsh Quakers 1653-1699) by Richard Jones, published in Barmouth in 1931. Early History of Merion and an old Welsh Pedigree by James J.Levick. Welsh Founders of Pennsylvania. The latter source states that Edward Jones was the son of a John Lloyd who was a brother to Anne Lloyd the first wife of John Thomas of Llaithgwm. The parish registers for Llanycil and Llandderfel were searched and unfortunately there was no baptism of an Edward son of John Lloyd. All the written accounts agree that Edward Jones married a Mary Wynne and she was the daughter of Thomas Wynne of Bronfadog in the parish of Caerwys. The "patronymic" naming system prevailed in Wales up to the mid 19th Century, especially in the remoter parts of north Wales. Surnames as such became widely used in England between the 12th and 14th centuries in response to the needs of increasing bureaucracy and expanding population and these surnames were of a basic type derived from a location or a topographical feature or an occupation, such as CLIFTON ; HILL or SMITH. The Welsh at this time were largely unaffected by English practices and the ancient naming system continued whereby children were identified in relation to their father. The Welsh word for son is mab and the Welsh word for daughter is verch or ferch in modern Terms. Therefore a son for example could have been Gruffydd ab (or ap) Llewelyn and a daughter could have been Elin ferch (or ach) Owain. With the psaage of time, changes occurred and William ap Richard for instance became William Prichard and Gruffydd ap Harry would have become Gruffydd Parry.By the 19th century the ap and verch or ach had disappeared and children carried their father's Christian name Title: "Crynwyr Bore Cymru 1653-1699" (Early Welsh Quakers 1653-1699_ By Richard Jones, Published in Barmouth in 1931 Title: Scott Tomlinson, mcbeth-iximd.com Text: From book 2 on the Jones family - Page 73 "of their eight children named in Doctor's Will - Martha, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Mary, Edward Jr., Thomas, Evan, & John." This sort of disproves the 2 Jonathans. Later on I found the following in regards to Jonathan son of Edward: b. 3 11mo 1680, d. 30 7mo 1770, buried at Merion Meeting on 8 8mo 1770. Will dated 19 May 1768, proven 1 Sept. 1770. He married Gainor Owen 26 8 mo 1688. Children: Mary, Edward, Rebecca, Owen, Ezekiel, Jacob, & Jonathan Jr. I believe this one of the problems since Jonathan has a son Jonathan as well as did Owen as well as others. says date of death for Dr. Edward Jones is 2/26/1737, Merion Twp., Philadelphia, PA. Haskell Patent. — The patent granted to Colonel John Haskell*** was settled by himself in 1726. He erected a log house on what was afterwards known as the Dusenberry farm, and which is now standing on lands adjoining the farm late of Ezra P. Thompson, Muchattoes hill. To this portion of his patent he gave the name of "The Hermitage"; divided it into farms, and remained in occupation of his original location, it is said, until his death. Tradition asserts that after obtaining his patent, he visited England and brought back with him many kinds of seeds, plants and cattle, which he cultivated and raised. Evan Jones, surgeon, was among the early settlers on the patent, having purchased and occupied lot No. 3. His farm of two hundred and ninety-two acres was sold by Bridget Jones, John Jones, and Thomas Jones, his execu- tors (Dec. 2-/, 1763), to Samuel Brewster, who erected (1768) what is now known as the Brewster house.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:
