Obituary

Ray E. Jones, 90, died March 20, 2015. Ray was born February 23, 1925 to Elbert “Casey” Jones and Grace Brock Jones on the farm east of Colfax where he would live his entire life. Ray met Lorraine Evelyn Plaster while attending Washington State College and they were married September 25, 1948 at Reardan, WA. Ray and Lorraine were married almost 63 years when she passed away in July 2011.

Ray learned to fly while at WSC when he and several buddies bought a cloth covered T-craft so they could all learn. After all the kids grew up, Ray renewed his interest with a Piper Cherokee. Longtime friend and neighbor, Bert Scholz, put in a grass strip and hangar. Ray and Lorraine were active in Flying Farmers.

Ray served on The Grange Supply Board of Directors for 33 years.

Ray farmed all his life and operated a combine in harvest for 75 straight years. He built his own combine cab before combines came equipped with them. His insightful wit made for great farm stories, especially of neighbors helping neighbors when times were tough. Ray enjoyed bowling, flying, boating and playing softball in his younger years. Ray was a member of North and South Palouse Grange, Washington Flying Farmers, United Methodist Church and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine and sister Bernice (Gene) Brannan. He is survived by his three children: Ken of Burbank, Greg of Colfax, and Nancy (Joel) Woods of Brewster, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Ray will be Friday, March 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts are suggested to the United Methodist Church, North and South Palouse Grange, or organization of choice. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com[1]
