Notes for ROBERT EDWARD LEE "BOB" JONES: Died from injuries received from an automobile accident on the Chattahoochee River bridge between Carrollton and Newnan, GA.The bridge was on fire and Bob was standing on the bridge on Ga Hwy 16 near Whitesburg, when the automobile whose dirver tried tp jump the area as it burned , hit Bob Jones, who died a few days later from the injuries.

Genealogy Report: Descendants of Thomas Benjamin Jones

Robert Edward Lee Jones, a son of the Hon. Jethro Jones and Celia Watson, was struck by a car on April 1 on the Chattahoochee River bridge while the bridge abutment was burning. He died as a result of his injuries on April 6. The driver of the vehicle, William E. Lee, was held in jail in Newnan charged with murder.

When electricity came to Whitesburg, the Jones brothers installed an electric corn mill. Sadly, the mill was destroyed by fire in 1926.

The Jones family all worked as cotton brokers. They each built a fine home in Whitesburg and are buried in the Whitesburg Cemetery.

Robert was a brother-in-law of Messrs. Claude and Grady Ridley.
