Thomas Jones, Jr., son of Thomas Jones and an unknown mother was born in Ohio in 1822. His mother died between 1824 and 1830. His father left Thomas and his brother Dennis to be raised by his parents in Ohio while he started a new family in Virginia.
In 1840, Thomas lives and farms in Milford, Knox, Ohio with his grandfather Thomas Jones, 65, from Maryland. Others in the household are his grandmother Winny and his brother Dennis. There is a female 5-9 and a female age 15-19.
Thomas, 20, and Dorothy, 19, were married in Knox County, Ohio on February 24, 1842.
In 1850, Thomas, 28, and Dorothy, 26, are living in Milford, Knox County, Ohio. They have four children: Andrew, 7, Mary E, 5, David J., 4 and Louisa Abigail, who is listed as “Laura”, 2. Thomas’s grandparents and his brother Dennis and his new wife, Elizabeth, live nearby. The three Jones men are all listed as farmers. Thomas, born in Ohio has $400 in real estate. Dennis, 26, born in Ohio has $1,000 in real estate.
Thomas and his family migrated to Green bush, Warren, Illinois sometime after June 1, 1850. They traveled about 360 miles on the National Road which was the first Interstate Highway in the United States.
A Cholera epidemic began in Green bush in June of 1851 and was so severe that many families left until it was over. Thomas, 29, died of Cholera on August 4, 1851 and was buried in the Green bush Cemetery.
Thomas M. Jones, who is also buried in the Green bush Cemetery, is often cited as Dorothy’s husband. He was not. Thomas M. Jones was born on August 4, 1824 and died February 6, 1892
