John Irby Jones was the son of Ashbell Willard Jones and Mary Catherine (Hughes) Jones. He was assigned to the 356th Infantry before he was transferred to Company L, 4th Infantry and shortly afterward sailed from Newport News, Va for France. He fought in the Battle of the Argonne and along the Muese river where he was killed in action at the age of 29.
