John Jones, born circa 1720 was residing in Wrightsborourgh, Richmond county, Georgia at the time of the Revolutionary War. [1] John served as a soldier in the Militia in 1782, for which he was repaid for services with land grants in Georgia. [2] John Jones is honored for his service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A062314. DAR records indicate that John died January 28, 1783, in Wrigthsborough, then Richmond county, now McDuffie county, Georgia and that his wife's name was Mary (maiden name not given.) Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Nathan Jones, who married Courtney Bell and of their daughter, Margaret Jones, who married Stephen Day. Will of John Jones of Wrightsborough Township in the parish of St. Paul's in the province of Georgia. Richmond Co., GA, WB 1 (1777-1798), pp. 78-80, written 13 Jan 1781, proved Richmond Co., GA, 28 Jan 1783 & 10 Oct 1790. [4]
In the name of God Amen. I John Jones of Wrightsborough Township in the parish of St. Paul's in the Province of Georgia being sick and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory praise be given to God for the same and considering the uncertainty of this life and being willing to settle my outward affairs in due time. Do make, ordain , Constitute and appoint this to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following.
Imprimis: I Give and Bequeath unto my oldest son Richard Jones Twenty shillings sterling to be paid in one year after my decease.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my daughter Ann Brown Ten shillings sterling to be paid one year after my decease.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my daughter Philipina Stanfield Five shillings sterling.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Day Five shillings sterling.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my son James Jones Five shillings sterling and apprehending him to be weak in his senses and not duly capable to manage the affairs of this life to advantage, Do therefore Will and Direct my two sons Jonathan Jones and Nathan Jones to take due and proper care of him my said son James Jones and supply him with food and _aiment he may have real O__ation of for the necessary support of life.
Out of the lands and estate herein after Bequeath to them all the time he can be pre_aied whom to dwell with them or either of them.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my son John Jones Five shillings sterling.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my daughter Mary Angle___ Five shillings sterling.
Item: It is my Will that my Loving Wife Mary shall have _______ and enjoy the houses, Plantation and Improvements whereon I now Dwell during her natural life.
Item: I Give and Bequeath unto my two sons Jonathan Jones and Nathan Jones their Heirs and ______________ forever all my plantation Track and Parcel of Land whereon I now dwell containing in whole Four Hundred Acres being in two Surveys To be Equally Divided between them in ____________ an Quality share and share a like Improvements for my Loving wife Mary to Dwell on During her natural life only. I do also give and bequeath unto my two above named sons Jonathan and Nathan Jones all my Right and Claim to one other land situate in the parish aforesaid adjoining the above mentioned Tract to be Equally and Share alike, and it is my Will also that they my two sons Jonathan and Nathan Jones do in consideration of all the said Lands now Bequeathed to them their Heirs and assigns, take due and proper care of my son James Jones while he can be prevailed upon to dwell with them as above Directed, also my Will is that if either of my said two sons Jonathan and Nathan Jones should die before he arrives at lawful age the survivor of them shall have _____ and enjoy all the above mentioned plantations tracts or parcels of land.
Item: All the residue and remainder of my Estate of whatsoever kind quality nature or condition so ever I Give and Bequeath to my Loving Wife Mary to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
Item: I hereby Authorize and Impower my Executor and Executrix hereafter named on Receipt of the Money due for the same to make over convey a ______ and confirm unto John Coats his heirs and assigns all that plantation Tract and parcel of Land _____ at or near Bush River in South Carolina by a Deed or Deeds Good and Valid in Law.
Lastly I Nominate constitute and appoint my loving wife Mary Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament hereby Ratifying and confirming the same In Witness whereof If have here unto set my Hand and Seal this 13th Day of the 1st Month, one thousand seven hundred and eighty one,

John Jones married Mary MNU[citation needed] in the region of Berks Co PA by 1740. They were not Quakers during the first decade of their marriage. They were received at Exeter MM (previously Oley MM) on 28 Jan 1751.
Exeter Township was formed in Philadelphia Co PA, and became part of Berks County, Pennsylvania at its creation in Oct 1751. On 26 Jul 1753, John and Mary Jones received a certificate from Exeter MM to Cane Creek MM in Orange Co NC; their certificate was received by Cane Creek on 6 Oct 1753. On 4 Feb 1769, the family was granted a certificate from Cane Creek MM to Fredericksburgh MM (Camden SC).
They were residents of the Bush River community at the first meeting of Bush River MM on 4th month 1772, and then constituent members of Wrightsborough MM (St. Paul's Parish GA) when it was set off from Bush River MM on 4da 12mo 1774. Despite continuous membership in five different monthly meetings, there is no extant family record regarding the births of the Jones children.
