Biography

Gerald Jones was born August 1, 1925 near Almeria, Nebraska, to Frank Jones and Elizabeth (Worth) Jones. Gerald was raised on the lands in Blaine and Loup County, Nebraska that were homesteaded by his familly.

Gerald married Doris Helmkamp on December 26, 1948 in the Pleasant Valley Church (the first and only wedding there). The wedding was small as the weather had turned bad and the blizzard of '48 swept through the area.

Gerald and Doris had four daughters. After leaving the ranch in the 1960's Gerald and Doris worked for Loup County Public Schools where they would both work until retirement. In his free time he loved fishing, hunting, woodworking and spoiling his grandchildren.

Gerald died on November 29, 2003.

TAYLOR -- Gerald Vesper Jones, 78, of Taylor died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Loup County School gymnasium in Taylor. The Rev. L. Deverle Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery at Taylor.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Gerald was born Aug. 1, 1925, near Almeria to Frank and Elizabeth (Worth) Jones.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Doris Jones; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karolyn and Vic Kovanda of North Platte, Shirley and Mikel Stavens of Hibbing, Minn., Judy and Norven Hood of Pleasanton and Nancy and Jerry Freeman of Eustis; and a sister, Grace Russell of Grand Island.
