According to Virginia M. Michl Mearl married a girl named Edna. Her parents had the marriage annulled a few days later. He then married a girl named Mertle and they had no children. They later divorced. Mearl was a carpenter and a house builder. He was considered one of the best at his trade. Mearl met his wives through the then popular, "Lonely Hearts Club."
