He was in the War of 1812, he married about 1814 in Russell Co. VA to Sarah Flannery, May 11, 1848 in Floyd Co. KY, he married 2nd wife Viney Jackson, in 1856 in Morgan Co. KY he married 3rd wife Sarah McKee Minix

He was the maternal third great-grandfather of Patty Loveless.

John married in about 1814 in Russell County Virginia to Sarah Flannery the daughter of Silas and Violet Flannery. Their children are; Edith Jane (Montgomery) Cole, Mary "Polly" (Montgomery) Picklesimer, James H. Montgomery, Elizabeth (Montgomery) Patrick, Silas Montgomery, Violet (Montgomery) Salyer, Miles Montgomery-my great great grandfather, Margaret "Peggy" (Montgomery) Patrick, Susan (Montgomery) Collinsworth, Samuel M. Montgomery, John Montgomery and Eliza Montgomery. On May 11, 1848 in Floyd County Kentucky John married second wife Viney Jackson. Their children are; Martha (Montgomery) McNew and Julia Montgomery. On June 15, 1856 in Morgan County Kentucky John married third wife Sarah McKee Minix. Their children are; Charles Smith Montgomery, Ester Montgomery-1857/1860 and Martin Montgomery. John was in the War of 1812.

John was born in 1793. He passed away in 1870.
