John was born in 1866. He was the son of William Jones and Mary Crawford. He passed away in 1923.[1]

Following an illness of seven moths, due to complications, John I. Jones, aged 57 years, died Sunday morning at his home in West College street. Tho a native of Wheeling, W. Va., Mr. Jones had been a resident of Canonsburg for forty years, and had worked in the industries here until ill health compelled him to quit. He was a student of baseball and had made a thoro study of the game. For years he had umpired games in the Tri-State District. He was a member of the South Side church, the Rev. Laura Silbaugh, pastor. He also was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men and the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Plate Workers. Mr. Jones leaves his widow, three sons and a daughter. The sons are John W. and Walter R. Jones of Chartiers street and Harry N., of Houston. The daughter, Mary, is at home and is cashier in the local J.G. McCrory & Co. store. Two brothers - William N. and George A. Jones - reside in Canonsburg. Mrs. Frederick Smith, Homestead; Mrs. Walter Everts, East Liverpool, Ohio, and Mrs. Wallace McGraw, Sebring, Ohio, are sisters. Six grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, in the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Oak Spring cemetery. The Improved Order of Red Men will hold a service tonight at the home of John W. Jones, Chartiers street.
