Biography

Samuel Jones, son of Samuel Jones and Margaret Porter was born 23 September 1862 at the family farm in Lisgar, Bailieborough, County Cavan, Ireland. He was baptized, Presbyterian, at Corglass, Bailieborough on 21 May 1863.[1]

Samuel died 13 March 1946 in Simpsons Hospital, Dundrum, Rathdown, County Dublin of Hemiplegia, Hypertension and Myocarditis.[2] According to the family, Samuel was hit by a tram in Dublin, got up, walked back to where he was staying, and died later the same day. If this story is correct he possibly went into shock and suffered a stroke causing paralysis down one side (hemiplegia). Samuel was reputedly buried 19 March 1946 in Bailieborough Churchyard.

Samuel Jones married late in life at the age of 42 to Henrietta Maxwell, daughter of John James Maxwell and Elizabeth Roun(d)tree on 20 September 1905 at St. George, Dublin, County Dublin Ireland.[3] They had five children -

  1. Henrietta (Hetty) de Vere Jones (1906-1987)
  2. Margaret Muriel (Meta) Jones (1908-1998)
  3. Elizabeth Lorenza (Laura) Jones (1910-1995)
  4. Samuel James Jones (1911-1992)
  5. Albert William Jones (1918-1992)

Samuel was a chemist and dentist in the Medical Hall Main Street, Bailieborough. The family lived almost next to the Medical Hall on the corner of Main Street and Ann Street (formerly William Street).
