Biography

John was born in 1666. He is the son of John Jones and Mary Stiles. He married Catherine and they had children: George and Nathaniel. John passed away in 1726.

WILL OF JOHN JONES

In the Name of God Amen this Twentyeth & third day of June One housand Seven hundred twenty & six I John Jones being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory do ordain and constitute this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son John Jones One hundred acres of land lying and bounding on the south side of White Oak Swamp more or less and one sute of cloaths and one cow & calf and one heifer.

Item :I give to my son George Jones Seventy three acres of land ore or less being on the branches of Lambs Creek and all the Smith's tools and three heifers. -Item: I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Jones Seventy three ores of land lying and binding on the south side of Lambs Creek and ye best sute of cloaths, my gun and three heifers.

Item: I give to my son James Jones three heifers and a sute of ood cloaths and the home plantation after the decease of [his] other.

Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jones one Negro ess and her increase forever & one cow and calf.

Item:I give to my daughter Catharine one cow and calf.

Item: I give to my daughter Sarah Joans (sic) one cow and calf.


Item: I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Catharine Joans (sic) whom I likewise constitute and ordain my sole Executrix of this my last Will & Testament, all and singular my lands and tenements & Negros and all my Goods, chattels whatsoever to be by her freely possessed & Injoyed as also the Remaining part of my Est. ate not above mentioned and hereby disanull all other wills or Testaments by me formerly made ratifying & confirming this to be my last Will & Testament as Witness my hand and seale the day and year above mentioned.

1735-1743 King George County Deed Book 2 (Antient Press); pp P. 544 Know all men We JAMES GRANT and CATHERINE his wife Parish of Brunswick King George County are bound unto JAMES HEWETT .. in sum One hundred pounds current money of Virginia .. 24th January 1743. They are not known to have had a son named John (their four sons are named in the 1682 will of Abraham Wood). The two profiles were merged & detached from Wood-15914.
