Biography

MR. S.E. KENNETH HINKLE, 82, a resident of 1423 Cole Ave., Elkins, passed away at 12:44 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Elkins, a son of the late Snowden Scott and Margaret B. Dumire Hinkle.

On Dec. 18, 1946, in the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, he was married to Phyllis A. Jones Hinkle, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Bobbi Trimboli of Elkins; one brother, Robert K. Hinkle of Elkins; three sisters, Edyth Furman, Alice Weese and Eileen Arbogast all of Elkins; and one grandson, Vincent James Trimboli.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Genevieve Faircloth and Elizabeth Stalnaker.

Mr. Hinkle attended the schools of Elkins and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was the general manager for General Tire and Battery for 26 years and later served as sales manager and advertising manager for WDNE Radio Station until his retirement.

Ken was active at the First United Methodist Church working along with his wife, with the youth and children of the church.

He was a member of the Elkins Lions Club where he was "Lion of the Year" in 1959-1960 and served as president in 1962-1963, served as director of advertising and member of the board of directors of the Mountain State Forest Festival and was instrumental in obtaining funding for the festival's current permanent office building.

He enjoyed many years of golfing and was a past active member of BPOE Lodge 1135 of Elkins, a lifetime member of the EHS Alumni Association and a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.

He was an active member of the Randolph County Senior Center where he sold advertising for the newsletter, active in the Members Council and a daily member of the Afternoon Pool Players Group.

He was an avid gardner who studied and practiced organic gardening and was host to gardening classes held by the West Virginia Extension Agency.

At the request of the deceased his remains were cremated.

A graveside service and interment of the cremains will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Senior Center, Fifth Street and Railroad Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241 in memory of Mr. Hinkle.
