Obituary[1]

J.R. Jones, of near Cooter, died Monday at his home after a four months illness caused from cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Jones was born at Raymondville, Mo. February 14, 1867. He was married to Miss Nancy Grows in 1890 and to this union were born ten children, one dying when quite small. Mrs. Jones died in 1911. He was later married to Mrs. Grace Holt, and to this union were born, three died in infancy. Mr. Jones and family moved to Pemiscot County in 1925 from Little Rock. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Grace Holt Jones, 10 sons, Charlie, Lucion, Ray, Glen, Abner and Arthur Ashcraft of Cooter; Elmer and Virgil Jones of Foster, Okla., Hershell Jones, of Nevada, Mo., and Herbert Jones of Casa, Ark.; three daughters, Mrs. T. Morris of Micola, Mrs. Dollie Ashcraft of Casa, Ark., Mrs. Alice West of Morrilton, Ark., Mrs. Mae West of Marlow, Okla., and Mrs. Ernest Ward of Russellville, Ark.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Cooter Baptist Church by Rev. J.B. Copeland, assisted by Rev. D.K. Blankenship. Burial was made in the Mount Zion Cemetery with the German Undertaking Co. in charge. The pallbearers were Nathan Hale, Hooper Azbill, Bill Frazier, O. McGowen, George Ladd and Albert Kincaid. The flower girls were Inez Renfro, Vera Boswell, Louise Little, Lucille Gestring, Mildred Harris and Ruby Hollingsworth.
