Biography

John William (Jack) Jones was born in 1816 in Duplin County, North Carolina. His parents were John and Ann Jones who moved to Florida and were living there in 1820; but, didn't like the climate and the hostile Indians so they moved to Laurens County, Georgia where they bought land in 1831. John (Jack) Jones was married twice. His first wife was Nancy May Rowland; and his second wife was Emaline Celia Keen. Jack served in the Confederate Army (Company E 40th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry) during the civil war. Jack also apparently served in the Indian Wars since he drew a pension for that service. He lived in Laurens County, about four miles east of Dublin the majority of his life. It is known that he owned some slaves. He died 4 August 1895, and was buried in the Daniell Cemetery east of Dublin.
