Biography

Alton Wade "Tony" Jones was born to Charles Brown Jones C. B. Jones and Annie Marietta Stuckey on July 12, 1907 in Indiana. His father was a Baptist pastor to many small rural churches in Indiana, Michigan, Georgia and Florida. The family moved frequently as Tony was growing up, but Tony managed to start working toward a degree degree at Berry College in Rome, GA. The family finally settled in Canal Point, Florida in 1932. Tony finished his college degree (circa 1941) at the University of Florida and worked as a chemist for the U. S. Sugar Corporation his entire professional career. Tony never married and lived with his parents until their death. Tony was present when his father died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage on the night of September 9, 1942 and was exempt from the World War II draft because he was the sole financial support for his mother. Tony financially supported his mother until her death in July of 1968. Following the death of his mother Tony retired and moved to Labelle, Florida, where he died on June 11, 1974.
