Biography

Thomas was born abt 1770. Thomas Jones married Elizabeth Patterson about 1790. Date & place based on birth of first child William who is currently believed to have been born about 1790 in South Carolina and died before 1829, probably in Kentucky.

Thomas moved his family to Kentucky about 1799 where the last 6 of his children were born. He is listed on the census in Christian Co, KY in 1800 and 1810 and on the Tax Lists there in 1801 and 1802.

On 30 Jul 1803 Thomas Jones received a land grant of 160 acres on Pond River in Christian Co.

  • Bk 12/170 "The KY Land Grants 1782-1924 by Tillson, 1971". Tax lists show show one male over 21. This is NE of Hopkinsville on Pond River.

After the youngest son, Enoch Madison Jones, was born 22 Apr 1814 the family moved to Illinois in 1815. The location is verified in the Marriage date stated in this biographical sketch--Edgar County History, p655. Also marriages of his children were in Illinois during the years 1816-1832, the first in Crawford Co and the remainder in Edgar Co.
