Luther was born in 1925, the fourth of eight children. In his autobiography, Luke wrote about the chores and gardening that kept food on the table during the depression, about his football career in high school, and about joining the Army Air Corps in 1943. In the interval between Sept 1944 and March, 1945, he served as navigator for 51 missions in Europe, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he enrolled in Idaho State University and married Dorothea Cook on Feb 4, 1946. The two had six children and he had a successful career in engineering. He passed away in 2008.
