Rev. Eliphalet Jones was the son of Rev. John Jones. Rev. John Jones arrived in Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1635, settled at Concord, Mass. in 1637, but then removed to Fairfield, Connecticut, about 1644.[1]
Eliphalet was born in Concord Jan 9, 1640/1.[2] He attended Harvard in 1662, but never graduated. He went to Greenwich, Connecticut, as a missionary in 1669, at which time he was invited by the people of Jamaica, New York, to become their minister, but must have declined. In April 1673 they again invited him and after some negotiation, he was ordained and remained there until he died June 5, 1731, age 90.[1]
He married Martha Lawrence, daughter of Thomas Lawrence. They had no children.[3][4]
He was a "man of great purity and simplicity of life and manners, and was a faithful and successful preacher of the gospel."[1]
