13 March 1739, James, Jabez (I), Jonathan, Rachel, Sarah and Lurania Jones of Colchester, Benjamin Greaves and Mary his wife of East Haddam, and Jonathan Minor and Lucy his wife of New London quit claim to Joshua Jones of Colchester all right, interest, etc., 'in or to yt. farm wch. our Hond father Thomas Jones gave to his son Joshua Jones in his Last Will and Testamt.'[3]

Disputed Origins

Thomas Jones was born at New London, Connecticut; his father has been posited as Thomas Jones, Junr., of Gloucester, but this plainly conflicts with both a will and a death record for that Thomas, at Gloucester, where he resided as of 1671 -- when he inherited significant local lands from his father -- and died in November of the year following, 1672. The confusion presumably stems in part from the fact that the family of the Gloucester man did briefly live at New London, from about 1651 to 1652; however, they unquestionably returned to Gloucester and the evidence is clear that both father and son remained there.

A profile for Thomas Jones, Sr. who married Catherine Gammon was created in 2018, and this Thomas, Jr. is certainly the son.

Thomas Joanes, of Colchester, admin. of the estate of Thomas Joanes late of new London, deceased, gave bond 11 November 1718.[4]

On 27 February 1719, Joshua Hempstead reports in his diary that "I was in Town all day on an Arbitration between Thos Joans & Isaac Fox & Adam Rogers to Settle old Joanes’s Estate."[5]. Thomas, Jr, was the son of "old Joanes" and Adam Rogers an Fox were sons-in-law.

Jones-5311 and Jones-18494 appear to represent the same person because: Jones-18494 was previously attached to Phebe Douglas marriage date 30 Dec 1703 in New London. This looks like an indexing problem. That's the marriage date for Thomas Jones to Mary Polly. The marriage for Phebe Douglas to John Baker was in 1704 (just the line below in the marriage records).
