Biography

Mary Jones was born in 1668, Charles City County, Virginia.[1][2][3][4]

Her parents were Peter Jones and his wife Margaret Wood.[5][6]

Mary Jones married Joshua Wynne[7][8][9] on 6 July 1685.[4]

Children

Joshua and Mary (Jones) Wynne had the following children:[10][11]

In the 1718 will of Mary (Jones) Wynne's mother, the following legatees are named:[13][14]
  • Granddaughter Margaret wife of Edward Goodrich
  • Granddaughter Mary wife of John Worsham
  • Grandson Peter Wynne
  • Major Joshua Wynne
  • Granddaughter Margaret Jones
  • Mrs. Mary Randolph
  • Grandson Peter Jones (son of son Abraham Jones decd.)
  • Grandson Joshua Wynne
  • Grandsons Robert Wynne, William Wynne and Francis Wynne
  • God son William son of William Randolph
  • Granddaughters (unnamed)
  • son Peter Jones.

Death

before 12 August 1718[15][1]
Note: Aug. 12, 1718 is the date of her mother's will, which appears to name her husband and several of her children (Margaret's grandchildren), but not her.[16]
Joshua married (2) Frances Anderson, in 1711. From her profile:
"Joshua Wynne had a first wife, Mary Jones, who predeceased her husband sometime between 1707 and 1711, leaving him free to marry Frances (Anderson) (Herbert) Cocke."

Research Notes

Sources that I could check have just "Mary" as her given name, so I left just Mary in the datafields. ~ Noland-165 17:24, 1 August 2016 (EDT)

One of the Pedigree files had dates (even though the file showed her son Peter as her spouse and her other children as theirs, the dates might be correct):[4]

  • Peter Wynne (1688-1738)
  • Joshua Wynne (b 1690)
  • Mary Wynne (1692-1724)
  • Robert Wynne (b 1695)
  • Francis Wynne (1696-1774)
  • William Wynne (1699-26 November 1778)

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:

Hello; I have only begun researching the Peter Jones (1634) Lineage. My interest stemmed from John Edward Feagins marrying Margaret Jones (1678), daughter of Peter Jones/Margaret Wood. Confusion about whether this Margaret was married to Joshua Wynne prior to marrying John Edward Feagins. Many inconsistencies in the online data. Some sources show P Jones/Margaret Wood with 5 children, some show 11. Confusion re Mary being referred to as Margaret and vice versa. I realize that your group has been working on the Jones family for some time, but thought I would inquire nonetheless. Thanks, Joe.

Hi! Sorry that I only just now saw this post. Hopefully, you've already read through her parents' profiles and gotten some answers...
Peter Jones married Margaret (should probably be "Unknown" rather than Wood). They had four sons who were named in Abraham Wood's 1682 will. See details about that, see Virginia Peter Jonese.
From a footnote on Margaret's profile (Peter's wife): "Joshua Wynn and Wynn grandchildren are named in Margaret's 1718 will...."

Cheers, Liz

Jones-38506 and Jones-7083 appear to represent the same person because: working through profiles attached to a duplicate of the mother's profile - this one is ready to be merged (for daughter Mary who married Wynne). Please merge. Thanks!

Jones-38502 and Jones-7083 appear to represent the same person because: I'm working on sorting out the profiles attached to Wood-15914 before proposing a merge with Wood-3916. Jones-38502 is a duplicate of daughter Mary's profile. Please merge. Thanks!

What project is this profile a part of? Her death date should be changed to "before 12 Aug 1718."

despite everything matching... Father of Jones-7083 is a different Peter Jones than the father of this Mary Jones. That needs to be resolved before the duplicate profiles for Mary can be merged.
