Biography

Sarah Hardison Jordan was born on 11 Jul 1792 in Ellsworth, Hancock, Massachusetts, United States. She was the daughter of Solomon I. Jordan and Christiana Simonton. Sarah Hardison Jordan married Eli Colby

Sarah H. Colby can be found at the age of 67 on the 1860 US census for Waltham, Hancock County, Maine along with her husband, Eli ("Ely"). Her son Aaron, and other relatives who may be Aaron's wife and children also appear in the same household, but the identity of the person transcribed as "Pallina", and the two young children needs to be established.

The birth places for Aaron and the remainder of the family may be "assumed" to be Maine, since the census taker appears to only note the birth location if there has been a change to the preceding information, but this is only a guess based on appearances, so the birthplace information has been left off of the census chart below. From the photocopy of the census, the age of the youngest child, Edman, appears to be 11 and 1/2 months.

Sarah ("Sally") Colby, age 79 and her husband, Eli, age 84 can be found in the household of their son Eli and his wife Lorinda and their family on the 1870 US census for Waltham, Hancock County, Maine. It's not certain whether there was actually a 20-year-old female named Arthur in the household, or whether the name or the gender was an error by the census taker.

Aaron L Colby, son of Eli and Sarah Jordan Colby, died on August 8, 1919 in Hancock Maine at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 8 days. Aaron Colby's death record identifies his parents as Eli Colby, born in New Hampshire, and Sarah Jordan, born in "Ellsworth" ( birth state not given). The record appears in the vital records of Hancock, Maine, and it seems likely that the "Ellsworth" specified was located in Hancock, Maine. Aaron L. Colby was himself born in "Ellsworth" on November 30, 1830, according to the death record. [4]
