Biography

Benjamine was a Friend (Quaker)

Benjamine Jordan was born on 18 September 1674, in Chuckatuck, Nansemond, Virginia Colony, to Margaret Brasseur Jordan (age 32) and Thomas Jordan Jr. (age 40) .[1] [2]<[3][4]

He married Sarah ______ about 1705. [5]

[See discussion regarding Sarah's maiden name and parents on her profile.]

Sarah and Benjamine had issue. There are three known children of Benjamin and Sarah Jordan, as she was the exectrix of Benjamine's Will:[6][7]

  • Margaret Jordan
  • Sarah Jordan
  • Benjamin 1714–1778

Benjamin and Joseph Glaister [possibly the step-father of Benjamin's wife, Sarah, see her profile for discussion] were "continued as yearly correspondents" at the Virginia Yearly Meeting of Friends [Quakers].[8]

Benjamin died on "the 12th day of the 12th month, 1716" [Julian calendar], or 12 February [see note below regarding year], in Isle of Wight, Virginia Colony.[9]

Note regarding Year of Death:

Benjamin's probate records are dated February of 1715. His "death sayings" written by James Jordan and Richard Jordan [his brothers] and recorded by William Scott, clerk, on the "8th day of the 6th month in 1717" [Julian calendar], or 8 August 1717/8, may have incorrectly stated the date, or perhaps probate records were incorrectly transcribed (no original record yet seen by this writer). UPDATE: Meeting notes for the Yearly Meeting at Chuckatuck, Virginia, signed by Benjamin in September of 1715 lead this writer to believe the probate date was incorrectly transcribed and that the death date in his death sayings is likely accurate.

Research Notes

On 23 Apr 1714, in Isle of Wight County, VA, Benjamin Jordan witnessed the nuncupative will of John Hale (abt.1648-1714). Furthermore, the Hailes and Jordans appear to be allied families during this timeframe, with both Richard Jordan and William Jordan appearing in records for Haile/Hale. See research notes on the profile of John Hale. [10]

Please add me to the trusted list for Benjamin Jordan/Jordon Jordon-3. He was the father of Benjamin of my line and I would like to add a jpg of Quaker records for evidence of Benjamin's children. Thank you, Grace
