Biography

Jedediah Jordan Jr., was born in 1684 in Kittery, York County, Maine (then part of the British province of Massachusetts Bay), New England. His father was Jedediah Jordan, Sr. and his mother was Abigail Gardiner, b. 1660 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine. He was their oldest son.

Jedediah Jordan Jr. married Faith Flye, b. 1685, Falmouth, Cumberland Co., Maine, on 18 January 1707 in Kittery, York, Maine. They settled in Cape Elizabeth (Spurwink village), Cumberland County, Maine. The couple had 6 children, all born on their Spurwink farm:[1]

  1. Israel Jordan b: 1712 in Spurwink, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine, Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England
  2. John Jordan b: 1715 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine
  3. Samuel Jordan, b: 1718 in Spurwink, Cape Elizabeth, Maine
  4. Jeremiah Jordan b: 1721 in Spurwink, Cape E., Cumberland, Maine
  5. Jedidiah Jordan b: 1722 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine
  6. Abigail Jordan b: 1724 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine

One family genealogy cites Oct. 1707 - Jan 1708 Maine court documents recounting that Jedediah Jordan Jr. and Faith Flye, now Mrs. Jordan, were convicted of "fornication" (the act occurring before their January 1707 marriage). They were sentenced to pay 15 shillings each or receive "7 stripes apiece on their naked backs..." [2]

It is not known when Jedediah Jordan, Jr., died but it was between 1725 and March 6, 1729, when his father's Will names his children as heirs in place of their deceased father.[3] Most family genealogies state this (6 Mar. 1729) as his burial date but there is no evidence of that. No burial record has been located, but it is likely he died before his father wrote his will, not the same day.

Research Notes

Note H00142
Jedediah Jordan Jr., eldest son of Jedediah Jordan, was born in 1684, at Kittery, York Co., Maine; died previously to March 1729. He settled on a portion of his father's land at Spurwink when quite young, and married early in life. No deed from his father to him can be found, but his father by will, dated March 6, 1729, bequeathed to the children of Jedediah all the portion of land selected by their father in his lifetime.
