Biography

Israel was born in 1680. He died in 1758.

• Abt. 1680, Born in Isle of Wight County, VA

• 1698, His father died. William Joyner of Isle of Wight County, VA, left a Will dated 16 May 1698 stating “I give and bequeath unto my son Israel and his heirs forever one hundred acres of land which Joyneth to the land belonging to that plantation which I do now dwell upon”.

• 1719, Patented 640 acres in Chowan Precinct, NC, on 1 Mar 1719 on the south side of the Maherrow (Meherrin) River. When he sold it, the land was referred to as “On the south side of the Meherrin River at mouth of Cypress Swamp.”

• 1722, Bertie Precinct was cut from Chowan Precinct which was formed in 1668. Northampton County was cut from Bertie County in 1741. Cypress Branch/Cypress Swamp south of the Meherrin River is in present day Northampton County. Cypress Swamp is next to Mount Olive Church.

• 1735, Israel Joyner and wife Elizabeth sold to Nathan Williams 640 acres of land granted to Israel Joyner on 1 March 1719.

• 1738, Beaufort County Land Patent dated 2 Nov 1738 for 623 acres. The land was located on the north side of the Pamplico River and lower side of Great Bank Creek.

• 1738, Land Deed dated 22 Dec 1738 shows that William Burney’s land adjoins Israel Joyner’s.

• 1739, Israel Joyner left a Will dated 12 Mar 1739 stating that he is “sick and weak but of sound mind”. He left his estate to wife Elizabeth and six unnamed children.
