Biography

Roll of Honor
Samuel Judkins was KIA during King Philip's War.

Samuel Judkins was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on 27 Nov 1638, the eldest surviving son of Job and Sarah Judkins. [1][2] As the eldest son, his father, Job, deeded Samuel land in Boston on 7 Aug 1662. [2] [3]

Samuel married Elizabeth Leavitt on 25 mar 1667 in Hingham, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of John Leavitt and his first wife, possibly Mary.[4] [5] (Leavitt)[6] [7] [8]Samuel and Elizabeth initially settled in Hingham Suffolk, Massachusetts, and had the birth of their first child recorded there [9] [2] [10]

Samuel and Elizabeth then moved to Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, [11] [2] and had four more children there: [2]

On 22 Feb 1676, the day after the town of Medfield was all but destroyed by Indians and apparently about a week after the birth of his daughter, Hannah, Samuel Judkins was among those men who came from Boston and were taken (or impressed) at Medfield (Massachusetts) to serve under Capt. William Turner in fighting Indians during King Philips War. [2] [13] [10] He marched with Capt. Turner to Marlborough and then on to the rescue of Quaboag (Brookfield), when that town was attacked. He clearly served until 7 April 1676, when Capt. Turner's command was reorganized - some continuing on with him and others reassigned to other units. Samuel received 2 pounds, 4 shillings and 6 d for his service under Captain Turner up to that point. [13] Some researchers have speculated that Samuel may have continued on with Capt. Turner and was killed with him at the Battle of Turner's Falls, [2] but his name does not appear among the lists of those who served and / or died there. [13]

Torrey [7] gives Samuel's death as 1676. His wife, Elizabeth, died 4 Feb 1888 / 89. [11]
