Katharina Margaretha and her husband Johann Konrad were still living at the time of the 1897 Grimm census. Seven of their children are listed as living in they family, and all but one are male. Daughter Katharina had a child born out of wedlock named Alexander. Neither his father's name nor his paternal surname are listed in the census. This grandchild will be referred to as Alexander Kerbel until his birth name can be documented.

Note that in the 1897 census, I added a line, Child #6, for Katharina Margaretha's unnamed son who passed away with 5 children under the age of 18. This allowed the layout of this record to more accurately reflect to whom these children belonged. The unnamed son's wife and mother of his children is also not named. While she may have still been alive, perhaps married and living in another household, I'm not sure the census takers would have referred to the children as orphans . It's possible that she, too, was deceased.
