Paul Kane was an artist known for his paintings and sketches portraying the lives and customs of Canada's First Nations.
Born in Ireland in 1810, he was the fifth of the eight children of Michael Kane and Frances Loach. In 1819 his family emigrated to Canada and settled in York (Toronto). He married Harriet Clench in 1853; they had several children.
