Biography

Isaac Kauffman was born circa 1734, in Manor Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a son of Isaac Kauffman and his first wife. Isaac's father and his second wife moved in 1757, to Warwick Township, in Lancaster county, and even ceded his brother, Jacob 272 acres of the Warwick tract, for 180 pounds. Jacob sold the tract to Martin Behler and remained in Manor Township, as did his brother. [1]

Isaac married Catherine Dullenbein (1738-1822) and they were parents of children, who benefited from Isaac's father's Will. Isaac died circa 1777, before the father, and his wife Catherine Dullenbein received 125 pounds for her services in behalf of her children, some of who were yet minors. The guardians of Catherine Dullenbein's children were Frederick Hoffman, who was replaced in 1786 by Stofel Steck, Christian Kauffman and Andrew Kauffman. [2]

Isaac died circa 1777 and was buried in the cemetery adjoining the Masonville Mennonite Church in Manor Township, Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania.

Researcher's Notes

Isaac's Find A Grave memorial [3] lists his birthdate as 1715, with a disclaimer that "b/d calculated." This birthdate refers to Isaac's father's date of birth, as Isaac died young. Isaac's wife was born in 1738, and Isaac could not have been born prior to 1730, based on the age of his father. The Find A Grave memorial gives a daughter of Isaac and Catherine as Magdalena, born May 8, 1777, who married Peter Fry.
