At one year of age he moved with his parents to Summit Co., Ohio, where he grew to manhood. In 1864, at the age of 19 years, he enlisted in the 25th Ohio Regiment of the Civil War. At the close of the war, 1865, he was honorably discharged and returned to his home. In 1860 he, with the rest of his father's family, moved to Benton Co., Iowa. Mr. Keck was married in 1870 to Miss Rachel A. Worley. In 1883 he moved to Cherokee Co., Iowa, where he lived until his death. During his army life he was in a number of battles and skirmishes. During his sickness he bore his affliction cheerfully and expressed himself as trusting in the merits of Jesus. At different times he sang the old familiar song of going home to see the Master and his father and mother. He was converted in his younger days and lived a consistent Christian life until the end. He was a member of the Evangelical Church. He leaves to mourn, his wife and three children, namely: Albert Keck, Mrs. Fanny Crom, and Mrs. Jennie Williams; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. May God abundantly bless the bereft family. Funeral services were held on Tuesday. A short service was conducted at the house by the Cherokee G.A.R. Post. The sermon was preached by Rev. Brauch at Morning Star Church and interment was made in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Nine American Legion soldiers were present in uniform and performed their usual ceremony both at the house and at the grave. The pall bearers were W.H. Keck, J.F. Keck, L.C. Keck, J.J. Williams, Eli Crom and Bert Paulin.

Jim created the Find A Grave website in 1995 because he could not find an existing site that catered to his hobby of visiting the graves of famous people. He found that there are many thousands of folks around the world who share his interests. What began as an odd hobbybecame a livelihood and a passion. Building and seeing Find A Grave grow beyond his wildest expectations has been immensely satisfying for Jim. Every day, contributors from around the world enter newrecords, thousands use the site as an educational reference tool, long-lost loved ones are located and millions of lives are fondly remembered. In what other line of work would Jim have met one of the last living Munchkins, spoken to a gathering of grave enthusiasts in a Hollywood mausoleum and acquired treasures like his antique coffin screwdriver (it only screws in)?
