Biography

Emmett Keener was born January 2, 1893, in Columbia County, Arkansas; in or very near Magnolia, Arkansas. He died on 23 February, 1933, in Magnolia. He was the son of Jim Keener and Nancy Bolden Keener, both born in Columbia County, Arkansas. This we know because of Emmett’s Death Certificate No. 138 filed in Columbia County, Magnolia Township, Arkansas. [1] His wife’s name (Aurilla Keener) and those of both parents are listed on the death certificate. The informant on his death certificate was William Kenner, a likely son.

Census 1900 Emmett Keener was living with his parents in H/H # 41/42 on June 5th, 1900. He was 4 years old; born June 1896 in Arkansas.[2]

Military Draft - 1917 On June 5, 1917, Emmett Keener registered for the military draft for World War I, in Ebenezer, Columbia County, Arkansas. Ebenezer is located near the communities of Free Hope and Warnock, which play into the lives of the Keener families. Emmett gave his address as Rt. 1, Magnolia. His physical description was stout build, dark brown eyes, and black hair. He had no phyical marks or scars on his body. He was 23 years old, born in Magnolia, Arkansas; a farmer, and was married. [3]
