Biography

James Ervin Keener was born in 1898. He was the son of Benjamin Harvey Keener and Amanda Jane Hurd. He passed away in 1948 at age 50.

James Ervin Keener registered for the military on September 12, 1918. The registration states that James was 20 years old, single, medium height, medium build, blue eyes, and red hair. His nearest relative was Maudy J. Keener (Amanda Jane). His occupation was coal miner. Of interest is that his middle name is listed as Erwin, not Ervin.

James Ervin Keener and Hester Cox obtained a marriage license on April 24, 1920 in Marion County, Tennessee. The witness was Clint (?) Ridge. The marriage ceremony was performed on May 9, 1920 by Rev. W. H. Wright (?). They had the following children -

Gladys Bernice Keener
Ervin Jackson Keener
Mildred Irene Keener
Thomas Wiley Keener
Paul Jessie Keener
Hazel Marie Keener
Mamie Ruth Keener
John Alexander Keener

James Ervin accidentally shot his father-in-law Wiley Cox in the leg on November 7, 1920. Wiley bled to death.

James Ervin's Certificate of Death states that his wife's name was Hester Cox Keener. His cause of death was undetermined. It also states that his middle name was Erwin, but his headstone states Ervin.

James Ervin Keener died at the age of 50 of undetermined causes. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga Tennessee. His residence was listed as Signal Mountain, Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA. He was listed as married.
