Biographical and Historical Information of Rev. Peter Francis Mitchell Keeney

Rev. Peter Francis Mitchell Keeney preached at the Mount Tabor Primitive Baptist Church History, Boone County, Indiana, however the time period he preached to his congregation is unknown at this time as limited church recrds remain and have been lost to time. Rev. Keeney is mentioned in the Mount Tabor Primitive Baptist Church History as "Elder" as is his tombstone is also engraved as "Elder".

Rev. Peter Keeney married twice:

  • 1. Dulcenia Shirley, the daughter of Elias Shirley and Martha (?) Shirley who settled in Perry Township, Boone County, Indiana. Dulcenia Shirley married Rev. Peter Keeney 4 March 1841 in Montgomery County, Indiana. The marriage registration record appears in Boone County, Indiana, but family tradition states that Peter and Dulcenia were married in Montgomery County, Indiana. The registration states that Peter was from Montgomery County, while Dulcenia was from Boone County, Indiana (which is where the marriage registration record appears in). The children Dulcenia and Rev. Peter Keeney were: Martha Elizabeth, Jonathan, John W. and Elias E. Keeney. Dulcenia Shirley Keeney died 21 May 1874 and was buried at the Mount Tabor Cemetery, Fayette, Boone County, Indiana in the Keeney family plot which is located just west of the Mount Tabor Primitive Baptist Church building.
  • 2. Elizabeth P. Moore Shirley Lutz. Elizabeth P. Moore was the daughter of Joseph Moore and Melinda Hambrick (who were married in Hendricks County, Indiana on 02 June 1833). (Elizabeth married first to Jesse H. Shirley (son of Elias and Martha -?- Shirley of Boone County, Indiana) on 23 February 1864 in Boone County, Indiana, and had children: Henry and Jesse H. Shirley. Secondly, Elizabeth married to George W. Lutz on 16 March 1871 in Boone County, Indiana.) Third, Elizabeth married to Rev. Peter Keeney on 07 October 1874 in Boone County, Indiana and had children: David P. Keeney and two unnamed sons who died in infancy on 16 February 1876 and 07 July 1881.
  • Two marriage registrations appears in Hendricks County, Indiana marriage records for Peter Keeney and widow Anna Buchanan Lawler, but neither marriage never appears to be solemnized. (Source information of these registrations are below, images are attached to this profile).
