Biography

Birth and Early Life Mary Ellen Keeney was born on 26 February 1849 in Holt County, Missouri, United States as the first of eight children to Eli Keeney (1828-1878) and Elizabeth Pierce (1832-1904).

  3. Jonathan F. Keeney was born on 3 January 1856 in Lane, Lane, Oregon, United States. He died on 23 November 1916 in Lane, Lane, Oregon, United States never having married.
  4. Elizabeth Ruth Keeney, known as Ruth, was born on 20 February 1858 in Lane, Lane, Oregon, United States. She married 1) William Henry Fletcher (1842-1907) on 17 June 1874 in Umatilla, Umatilla, Oregon and 2) Isaiah Matheny on 25 January 1917 in Umatilla, Umatilla, Oregon. When she was 2 years old her parents left in April 1851 for a six month journey on the Oregon Trail across the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains and the Cascade Mountains to make a new life in Oregon. They traveled in the Keeney Wagon Train which was headed by her uncles Elias and Capt. Jonathan Keeney. Her baby sister Frances died at the end of the trip.

She married twice.

  2. Thomas Jefferson Matlock (1849-1923) in 1871.

  2. James Lane Matlock was born on 7 August 1873 in Oregon, United States. He died on 14 April 1892.
  3. Horace Jackson Matlock was born on 15 December 1876 in Oregon, United States. He married Jennie Wood (1876-1955) in 1899. Horace died on 8 February 1957 in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States.
  4. Benjamin Franklin Matlock was born on 21 April 1879 in Heppner, Morrow, Oregon, United States. [1]He married 1) Olga Loretta Downing (1890-1920) on 27 August 1909 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and 2) Hope Meidell Jeffers (1886-1958) on 26 March 1930 in Los Angeles County, California. Ben died on 5 February 1960 in Los Angeles County, California, United States. [2]
  5. Nora Eta Matlock was born on 20 January 1886 in Heppner, Morrow, Oregon, United States. She married Otto William Metschan (1878-1937) in 1907 in Multnomah County, Oregon. Nora died on 9 November 1974 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States.
  6. Juanita Matlock was born on 7 May 1889 in Heppner, Morrow, Oregon, United States. She died on 29 August 1978 in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States never having married.

Death and Burial
