Birth and Early Life

Maranda Minerva Keeney was born on 12 August 1847 in Holt County, Missouri, United States to James Mordecai Keeney (1816-1885) and Nancy Keeney (1809-1862). Her father had children by a previous marriage.

The Keeney Wagon Train

At the age of 4, she traveled to Oregon on the Keeney Wagon Train which was led by wagon master Elias Keeney (1828-1910). The trip was about 2000 miles long over very rough and unforgiving terrain and it took approximately six months. They used oxen pulling Prairie Schooners and most of the people including women and children walked for most of the journey. Oxen didn't have reins. It was said to have been the largest wagon train in the year 1851.

Maranda married Jacob Hunsaker Wigle (1841-1925) on 22 December 1865 in Oregon.

  3. James Edward Wigle was born on 13 November 1873 in Willowcreek, Malheur, Oregon, United States. He married Bertha Elizabeth Brock (1877-1966) on 23 October 1895. James died on 11 October 1939 in Eugene, Lane, Oregon, United States.
  4. Martha Irene Wigle was born on 12 February 1879 in Linn County, Oregon, United States. She died on 14 October 1880 in the same place.
  5. Nellie Lewetta Wigle was born on 27 October 1881 in Brownsville, Linn, Oregon, United States. She died on 6 November 1907 in Yakima, Yakima, Washington, United States.
  6. Oscar Philip Wigle was born on 27 November 1884 in Brownsville, Linn, Oregon, United States. He married Elsie Fay Dougherty (1887-1977). Oscar died on 20 July 1967 in Salem, Marion, Oregon, United States.

Death and Burial
