Obituary

Della Keil Collins August 28, 1925 - July 31, 2010 Age 84, Lawton - Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Collins died Saturday in a Lawton hospital. Burial with military honors will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. She was born August 28, 1925 in Flatonia, Texas to Philip E. and Ima Zean (Robinson) Keil. She moved to San Antonio, Texas, at the age of ten and was a 1942 graduate of Breckenridge High School. She attended nurses training at Baptist Medical Surgical Hospital and finished her training in 1946. While training she was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She would later earn her bachelors degree in nursing education from the Incarnate Word College, graduating in 1951, and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps. She married Joseph E. Collins in 1952 at the New Post Chapel at Fort Sill. They would be married for 23 years. She had worked as a nurse at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center and as a community health nurse at Fort Sill as well as working as a hospice nurse. She is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Patricia Miller, Fletcher, and Mary and Dan Scarborough, Hurst, Texas; two sons and a daughter in law, Joseph Edward Collins, II, Tulsa, and Philip Hugh and Karen Collins, Boswell, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Georgia Miller, Patrick Miller, Ben Scarborough, Sam Scarborough, David Van Higginbottom, Kelli Stephens, Joseph Alexander Collins and Buffy Miller; five great grandchildren, Garrett and Rowen Stephens and Mackenzie, Brooklyn and Abby Higginbottom. A son, Joseph Hugh Collins, and a brother, Philip Keil, preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Incarnate Word University at San Antonio, Texas.
