From the Hess family history in the book,History of the Wapwallopen Region,
Jeremias was born in Bucks County, in the year 1751, lived in Williams Township, Northampton Coun ty, and died in Nescopcck (now Conyngham) Town ship, October 24. 1819, married first about 1774-1775, Elisabeth Keller who died November 19. 1805 in 49th year of her age. They had 13 known children. He married second about 1806, Susanna, thought to be the daughter of John Boyer and widow of Peter Lane- hart. She died August 31. 1829, aged 54 years, 8 months and 5 days, the mother of his 3 youngest children. He was a Deacon in the First Reformed Church of Easton in the year 1786, in which records are found the baptism dates of 7 of their 13 children. Two other baptisms are recorded in the Plainfield Church Book. Plainfield Township. He was listed in a tax list for 1788 as a stone mason, owned 1 horse, 1 cow, tax 3 shillings. We have found a deed for land in Plainfield Township, North ampton County, Pa., which relates the sale of land by Jeremias and Elisabeth Hess to John Christ on April 1, 1805. He purchased 212 acres of land in Nescopeck Township, April 16, 1805 from James McNeal, it being a part of the "Wapwallopane" tract. They built their first log-cabin on this land, near Little Wapwallopen Creek. At the time of his death he owned 911 acres and 119 perches of land. 76 acres of the original 212 acres were conveyed to William Hess May 30, 1823, by Jacob Hess and his wife Maria, both sons of Jere miah. Aaron Hess a great-grandson of William still lives on this land and in the frame home which Wil liam built.
