Death of John Louis Kelley
News was received Thursday evening of last week of the death of John Louis Kelley at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Theron McCuen, in Bakersfield, Calif., where he had removed in June of this year from his home in Stockton. He had been vice-principal in Stockton grammar schools for the past 12 years. John L. Kelley was born at Crescent Mills November 5, 1867, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tryon Kelley, pioneer residents of Indian Valley. He taught in the schools in the Indian and American valleys before entering the San Jose Normal School, after which he became principal of Soquel Grammar School and later of Lincoln Grammar School. He was married at San Francisco, April 6, 1918, to Louise Leek, who survives him. To them were born two children, Mrs. Hazel McCuen of Bakersfield and John Tryon of Stockton. He leaves five sisters, Mrs. Emma Hepler and Mrs. Ella Glass of Mountain View; Mrs. Martha Zuschlag and Mrs. Jane Rodgers of Greenville, and Mrs. Lillian Welty of Los Angeles; four brothers, Joseph I. Kelley of Greenville; Walter L. Kelley of Crescent Mills; Arthur L. Kelley of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Mark M. Kelley of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

John L. Kelley, Teacher in Public Schools 30 Years, Passes Away Here
John L. Kelley, 68, pioneer California educator who had been making his home in Bakersfield since ill health forced his retirement from active service in the Stockton school system last May, passed away late yesterday in a local hospital.
He made his home here with a daughter, Mrs. Theron L. McCuen, 1915 First Street.
Born in Crescent Mills, Calif., Mr. Kelley had been a teacher in California schools for the last three decades and for the last 12 years had been ****** with the Stockton elementary school system.
He was a graduate of San Jose State Teachers College with the class of 1901.
In addition to his daughter, he leaves a widow, Mrs. Mary Louise Kelley; a son, J. Tryon Kelley of Stockton, and a two grandsons, John Theron McCuen and Peter Allen McCuen, both of Bakersfield.
His body lies in states in ****** Chapel, where funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.
Dr. Noel Breed, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Stockton, will come to Bakersfield tto deliver the eulogy, the family announced. Burial wll be in Greenlawn. [1]
