Biography

The son of William Kelley Sr and Elizabeth (Singleton) Kelley, John Kelley was born in Tennessee[citation needed] around 1814. He married "Anna," about whom nothing is known, having at least six children together:

  1. Mary Jane Kelley (1835-1926)
  2. Samuel S. Kelley (1838-1903)
  3. James F. Kelley (1841-)
  4. John Kelley (1842-)
  5. Martha Kelley (1847-)
  6. Stephen F. Kelley (1854-1914)

John and his family made their home in 1850 in Lauderdale County, Alabama,[1] returning to Tennessee by 1860 and living in Wayne County's 13th Civil District.[2]

Research Notes

Middle Name - Unable to find documents to support Jacob. Can you help?

Born in TN - Both Census reports indicate he was born in TN. However, William Kelley Sr's pension files indicate the family didn't move to McMinn Co, TN, until about 1824. And William Kelly was documented in Greenville Co, SC, in 1790-1810, then Pendleton, SC, in 1820.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
