Samuel Kellogg was born after 1630, probably in Braintree, Essex, England, one of seven children of Martin Kellogg, weaver.[1] Samuel and two of these brothers, Joseph and Daniel, immigrated to New England.[1]
He was taken prisoner by Indians prior to his marriage to Sarah (Day) Gunn. He was later taken by Indians to Canada.
Samuel Kellogg, son of Martin Kellogg and Prudence Bird, married 24 Nov 1664 at Springfield, Massachusetts, Sarah Day, daughter of Robert and Editha (Stebbins) Day and the widow of Nathaniel Gunn, Sr.[2] They settled on the west side of great Connecticut River in that portion of Hadley, which later broke away to form the town of Hatfield.[1] Samuel and Sarah (Day) (Gunn) Kellogg had four sons:[1]
Samuel, born 11 April 1669, m. Hannah Dickinson
Nathaniel, born 4 June 1671, m. (1) Margaret ____, (2) Mrs. Priscilla Williams
Ebenezer, born 2 June 1674, died young
Joseph, born 19 Sept. 1676, slain by Indians 19 Sept. 1677
Samuel was a farmer in Hatfield (see Wikipedia), on the east side of the Connecticut River, where he owned a four-acre home lot, raising Indian corn and other grain.[1] Indians attacked Samuel's home 19 Sept. 1677, killing Samuel's wife Sarah and their one-year-old son Joseph.[1]
Samuel married (2nd) on 22 March 1679, Sarah Root, daughter of Thomas Root of Westfield.[1] They had three children:[1]
John, born 25 April 1680, died unmarried in 1755
Thomas, born 1 Oct 1681, died unmarried before 12 May 1758
Sarah, born 14 April 1684, m. Abraham Morton
Research Notes
Samuel's farm was in Hatfield (see Wikipedia), on the west side of the Connecticut River, which area was originally claimed as part of the town of Hadley on the east side of the Connecticut River.[1] Residents of Hatfield complained that they needed their own church because it was unreasonable to have to travel across the river to Hadley. The town of Hadley didn't agree, but Hatfield residents withdrew from Hadley and incorporated their own town of Hatfield in 1670. This causes occasional confusion in biographies of people who lived in Hatfield before the town was incorporated, and known first as Hadley. The town of Hadley was always on the east side of the river, Kellogg's farm was always on the west side of the river. Samuel Kellogg's farm didn't move, but the name of that portion of the town of Hadley was changed to Hatfield.

The merge of this profile Kellogg-286 into Kellogg-80, is ready to be completed. I removed the wrong parents on Kellogg-80 (obvious since they were born within 4 yrs of their "son").
Samuel Kellogg-80 now is connected to the correct parents, and ready to be merged into Kellogg-286, which has the sources and the correct date and footnotes!
Joseph Kellogg is on pages 25 - 31, and Samuel Kellogg is on pages 33-34.
Samuel-80 must be unconnected from Joseph and Joanna - they are not his parents. Then they need to be merged into Kellogg-44 and Unknown-404922, giving priority to the data on Kellogg-44 and Unknown-404922 because they have better sources, are more complete and correct.
Samuel Kellogg-286 should be merged into Samuel Kellogg-80, which will then give Kellogg-80 the correct parents. In that merge, all data should be in favor of Kellogg-286.
Kellogg-286 and Kellogg-80 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same two wives, same death date/location. The parents are different. Parents on Kellogg-80 are not correct - please see sources for parents on Kellogg-286,Samuel's parents were Martin Kellogg and Prudence Bird, this is not in doubt - it is well documented. The Samuel Kellogg who married Sarah Day and Sarah Root has been confused with some other Samuel Kellogg on Kellogg-80. PLEASE remove the connection on Kellogg-80 to parents-not Joseph Kellogg and Johanna Roote. Please contact me if there's questions on this. We can take it to the G2G forum if more information is needed. Thank you.
This profile is now ready to merge with its duplicate, I corrected the parents (obvious, since the previous parents were the same age as their "son").
So, will take changes one at a time from now on.
Thank you, April

Joseph Kellogg-83 is a brother of Samuel, not his father.
