Your research subject was certainly in a very unique position in 1931 being partners with the Mayor of Phoenix and also offering services in the financial areas. He was probably better off financially than most during those years.
Continuing on the same page and column is the following listing: "Lane Harry F sec-treas Lane-Kelly Tr & Inv Co r R D 6 (Rural Delivery 6)". Rural Delivery 6 is in the southern part of Phoenix west of Central Avenue.
On page 738, left column Lane-Kelly has a classified listing under real estate, however, they do not have a listing under loans or insurance.
Veteran Real Estate Broker, J.F. Kelly, Dies. - :: Jesse F. Kelly, veteran Phoenix real estate broker, died early today in his home at 85 W. Lewis after a short illness. He was 81. Mr. Kelly, a past president of the Phoenix Real Estate Board, was recognized as an authority on real estate values in the Southwest. He had been actively engaged in the real estate business and as an appraiser in the Valley since 1902, when he forsook the work of a pharmacist.
A Native of Lake City, Minn., Mr. Kelly came to Arizona in 1897 after graduating from a pharmaceutical school. He worked in Prescott before moving to Mesa, where he decided to abandon the drug business and engage in real estate activity. He was associated shortly after his arrival in the Valley with the E. J. Bennett real estate firm, one of the first major developers of Phoenix and subsequently with the late Franklin D. Lane, Phoenix mayor and a leading real estate operator.
In 1920 he opened a real estate office in Phoenix and resided here since that time. His son, Frank has been associated with him since 1936. Mr Kelly had served at various times as a property appraiser for the Valley National Bank, the Security First National Bank of Los Angeles, and numerous other business and financial organizations.
In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife Jennie; two granddaughters, and a sister, Mrs. W.E. Collins of St. Paul Minn. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in A.L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. The body will then be taken to Lake City for additional services and burial.
