Biography

JAMES C. KELLY
James C. Kelly was born in Virginia, August 4, 1830. Came to Missouri when quite a young man and settled in Cooper county. He was married to Miss Marie L. Duncan, April 3, 1851. Soon after his marriage he moved to Lafayette county, where he spent the rest of his life. Ten sons and daughters were born to him, eight of whom are still living.
Mr. Kelly was a man of sterling character, honesty and upright in all his dealings with his fellow man. Prosperous in business he became a man of considerable wealth. Misfortune in business overtook him, and he lost most of his possessions. But with sacrifice, he paid all of his just debts and he died owing no man anything.
For many years he was a devoted member of the Christian church. He died in peace on the 19th day of September, 1916, in his 87th year. His body is at rest beside that of his wife in Machpelah cemetery at Lexington, Mo.
